World Art Day Oaxaca 2016

0

Día Mundial del Arte (World Art Day) is an international celebration of art held annually on the 15th of April to mark the birthdate of Leonardo da Vinci.

Declared in 2011 by the International Association of Art, the UNESCO endorsed event was first celebrated in 2012 in over 70 countries.  The organisers made the following suggestions: “all museums and galleries stay open long nights, we expect conferences and panel discussions to be held on that day … In the evening, celebrations and wild parties should follow all the exhibitions”.

The city of Oaxaca will be doing it’s best to match those expectations with an extensive four-day program of exhibitions, artistic workshops for adults and children, talks and guided tours.  This year’s guest country is Germany and the program will feature German artists Julian Cording, Christoph Knecht and Seb Koberstatd.  Also participating is special guest Scott Campbell from New York.

The festival is free and will officially open on Wednesday, April 13 at 10am with an artistic intervention at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Oaxaca.  You can see the full program of events below or download it here, and make sure you follow us on facebook for daily updates and special events.
