Formed at the start of 2013 The Alebrijes de Oaxaca are a new team in Mexican football. Currently playing in two leagues – the Ascenso MX tournament and the COPA MX – they played their first games in July this year.
The team has its roots in the organisation Tecamachalco, formed in 2000 as a football school. The school had two main goals: generating top level athletes and nurturing both their physical and individual development. Tecamachalco obtained franchises in the third and second divisions and eventually an opportunity arose to form a team in Oaxaca – The Alebrijes.
