Located in a dilapidated 19th century home in the centre of Oaxaca, The Matria Jardín Arterapeutico is a community space dedicated to sustainable gardening techniques and artistic interventions. Featuring at it’s centre an impressive urban garden that unites “art and nature, healing and community”, it also features regular exhibitions, weekend concerts and workshops on sustainable themes.
The garden integrates many found items such as bed frames, chairs and baths and also focuses on the recycling and creative use of items such as PET bottles, tyres and other containers.
Workshops have included bread making, organic gardening, and medicinal plant use. You can check our events guide for any upcoming workshops.
The space changes constantly so make sure you visit often to see how the garden, the architectural space and the art all grow together. And don’t miss the giant swing. It’s great!
If you’d like to get involved you can volunteer in the garden on Wednesdays between 10am and 12pm.
Opening hours are Wednesday to Monday, 10am to 6pm and entry is free.
