This week Oaxaca will host some of Mexico’s best chefs as part of the ‘el saber del sabor’ food festival.
Opening on Friday 28th, the festival begins with an inaugural dinner featuring 50 traditional chefs from the eight regions of the state of Oaxaca. Held at the Plaza de la Danza, tickets cost $300 and are available from Galeria Quetzalli and participating restaurants.
The main feature of the festival is the degustation menus which will be offered each day. Participating restaurants include Casa Oaxaca, Origen, Mezquite, Zicanda and Pitiona and tickets for these events cost $1,500 per person. Check the program for more details.
You’ll be able to sample mezcal, wine, artesanal beers and other local products at the Hotel Quinta Real from the 29th of November until the 2nd of December at the degustation pavilion. Entrance is free but you’ll need to pay for some products and tastings.
The festival also includes workshops and conferences and a special ‘recorrido mezcalero’. Participants in this event will visit four mezcalerias (Mezcaloteca, Piedra Lumbre, Insitu and Mezcalillera), and sample 12 mezcals. The cost is $300.
