UMBRAL is a space that unites artists from Mexico and around the world that are interested in the production of sound. Each session is based on the premise of generating new collaborations, ways of production and formats that push the limits of classification such as experimental, sound art, music, composition and action. One of the main goals of the project is to present active national and international artists with new artists who’ve had little diffusion of their work or who haven’t previously had the opportunity to do live performances.
Fresh off the back of their third anniversary celebrations, Umbral has joined with the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Oaxaca (MACO) to present the very first Umbral festival.
Opening on November 30, the five-day festival will bring together 29 artists and include concerts, workshops, an exhibition, a performative symposium, works in public spaces, and a presentation by Ensamble Negro who will be premiering works by composers from the UK, Australia, Japan and the United States. See the posters below for more info on the participating artists.
All events are free and you can see the full program on the MACO website.
