Festival Eduardo Mata

Festival Eduardo Mata is a ten day celebration of music.

The ten day festival will open with a performance of Stravinksy’s opera ‘The Soldier’s Tale’ (Historia de un Soldado) at the historic Teatro Macedonio Alcalá  on Friday, November 20.  This work is a collaboration between the Festival Eduardo Mata and Instrumenta and will be interpreted by the MX theatre company under the direction of María Morrett.  ‘The Soldier’s Tale’ will be performed several times throughout the festival, check the program for details.

In this edition of the festival there are 19 premieres of works by Oaxacan composers including symphonic and chamber music as well as electronica.  In addition, five new Oaxacan chamber ensembles will be presented, four of which are a product of the Diploma in Chamber Music at El Centro de las Artes de San Agustín (CaSa).

With the aim of stimulating the creation of contemporary music for symphonic bands the festival will include the 2nd Ibero-American Composition for Symphonic Band competition ‘IBERMÚSICAS Oaxaca 2016’.   The prize of $10,000 USD will be awarded at a special ceremony on Saturday, November 28.

The festival will also include performances by the Oaxacan Symphony Orchestra, Coro Axis Mundi (choral group), and the Oaxacan State Music Band.
