The Festival de Cultura y Tecnología, the first festival of drawing and new media to be held in the city of Oaxaca, will open on February 8 with a spectacular audiovisual performance that fuses textile design, live visuals, aerial dance and music.
The three-day festival will bring together works from a variety of national and international artists in a range of disciplines including drawing, music, dance and poetry, and will also include a series of workshops for both adults and children.
Exploring the idea that drawing is a primordial tool of the arts that continues to offer value in the present, the festival seeks to transform public and private spaces with shows that blend live drawing, literature, music and new technologies. The idea is to achieve a greater connection with the arts through the participation of, and interaction between, artists, residents and visitors to Oaxaca.
Participants include Dr Alderete, Alejandro Magallanes, Jis, Natalia Toledo, Darío Castillejos, and Sonido Gallo Negro, among others.
The festival closes on February 10 at Teatro Macedonio Alcalá with the ‘Jam de Moneros’ and a live drawing performance that allows visual artists to improvise and perform their art with the fluidity and expressiveness usually reserved for musicians. The featured artists are Dr Alderete and Rafael Rodríguez Rivera, and music will be performed by Sonido Gallo Negro and Twin Tones.
All events are free and you can download the full program here.
