This weekend a very different sort of exhibition launches here in Oaxaca.
VOID is an exciting new collaboration between almost twenty international artists from different disciplines, culminating in three distinct multi-media shows at Taller Espacio Alternativo on June 11, 12 and 13.
Technology is an inescapable part of our everyday lives. In a world where over 60% of the world’s population are internet users and where 1 in every 13 people on Earth is on Facebook, our relationships to each other are becoming increasingly mediated through digital technologies.
The VOID project asks questions of our relationship to technology, and through technology, to each other and the world. Using computer-generated graphics and aesthetics commonly employed by industry and science, VOID plays with questions about technology’s role in constructing our notions of reality and mediating our interpersonal relationships, as well as its role in creating and collaborating on art.
This exhibition is the culmination of a series of events with Trayectivo art tours aiming to establish a dialogue between the city and citizens of Oaxaca and the wider web. As well as featuring an installation of animated loops, interactive twitter ‘robots’, prints, photography and poetry, the exhibition will include live music and dance performances from artists here in Oaxaca as well as streamed from other locations around the world.
VOID is a space to think about technology. Everyone is invited to join.
