This Sunday is a very special day for animal lovers in Oaxaca. It’s the Día de San Ramón Nonato, Blessing of the Animals!
If you haven’t seen it before, this is one event you don’t want to miss. Locals will dress their animals in costumes and take them to the Templo y Ex-convento de la Merced to receive a blessing. Blessings are given by the local priest with holy water that has been specially prepared for this day. You’ll see cats, dogs, chickens, birds, mice and all kinds of animals gathering in the courtyard from around 3pm and the official blessings will begin at 4pm.
