Finding pottery in Oaxaca is easy, but understanding more about the mysterious world of mud and meeting the artisan who made the piece can be harder.
Innovando la Tradición is a sustainable design, non-profit organisation focused on rescuing pottery traditions in Oaxaca and supporting the artisans who’ve kept this centuries old heritage alive through their work. They are launching a new program of tours called Dreams of the Earth.
Dreams of the Earth tours will publicize the wisdom of women potters in Oaxaca and improve their income to support their workshops through participatory tourism.
Participants will have the opportunity to have their hands, feet, heart and mind in contact with the clay, and to understand and experience the transformation of mud into beauty. They will learn about the ancient traditions of pottery in Oaxaca directly from one of the master artisans in her workshop.
The next tour is December 20th, and you can reserve your spot here. Tours cost $629 MEX per person and artisans receive 50%. This goes towards improving their workshop or studio space. The other 50% goes to Innovando la Tradición in order to keep the tours running.

Encontrar barro en Oaxaca es sencillo, pero comprender el misterio que encierra y conocer las manos que lo convierten en arte es más complicado.
Innovando la Tradición ,una asociación civil cuyo objetivo es elevar el valor simbólico, cultural y comercial de la cerámica, y apoyar a los artesanos que mantienen viva esta milenaria tradición a través de su trabajo, está promoviendo un nuevo programa de tours llamado “Sueños de la Tierra”. Sueños de la Tierra mostrará la sabiduría de las mujeres alfareras de Oaxaca y con ello ayudará a mejorar sus talleres de trabajo a través de un turismo participativo.
Los asistentes a estos tours tienen la oportunidad de poner manos, pies, corazón y mente en contacto con el barro para así poder comprender y experimentar la transformación del lodo en belleza y aprender sobre la tradición alfarera en Oaxaca, todo esto directamente de la mano de una maestra artesana en su taller de trabajo.
El próximo tour será el 20 de Diciembre, puedes reservar tu lugar aquí. El costo del tour es de $629 pesos por persona, de los cuales 50% se entrega directamente al taller visitado y el restante se usa para los gastos operativos.
