The Centro Fotográfico Manuel Álvaro Bravo (CFMAB) will celebrate its 20th anniversary on September 17 with the opening of the exhibition ‘Universo en el Sur‘.

CFMAB was founded on September 17, 1996 by local artist Francisco Toledo and the collective Luz 96, who will also feature in this week’s celebrations with a talk on Friday, 16 at 7pm.  Participating in the discussion will be Cecilia Salcedo, Jesús Marquez, Jorge Acevedo, Juan Carlos Reyes, Domingo Valdivieso, and Vittorio D’Onofri.  There will also be music by Trio Savoy Truffle.

The ‘Universo en el Sur‘ exhibition, featuring photographs from the extensive collection of Toledo and INBA (it currently holds over 90,000 photos), will include works from Mary Ellen Mark, Graciela Iturbide, Manuel y Lola Álvaro Bravo, Man Ray, Jorge Acevedo, and Frederick Starr among others.  The exhibition opens on Saturday, September 17 at 7pm and the anniversary celebration will also include music from local favourites Byt Band.

Don’t forget that you can see more works from the Toledo/INBA collection in the current exhibition at Centro de las Artes de San Agustín.

The anniversary festivities will begin on Thursday, 15 with a presentation of the postcard book ‘Desnudogramas‘ featuring unedited works from Charles Harbutt, and conclude on Friday 30 with Música Estenopeica, a special performance from the Pasatono Orquesta.

All events are free.

CFMAB is located at M. Bravo 116, on the corner of Garcia Vigil, in the historical centre of Oaxaca.
