Singer Alejandra Robles, the Banda Filarmónica Universitaria, poet Natalia Toledo and Zapoteco rap group Badubazendu will come together on Saturday, January 23 for a special concert to raise funds for the Escuela Normal Bilingüe e Intercultural de Oaxaca.
The concert will be held at Teatro Macedonio Alcalá at 7pm and funds raised will be used to carry out educational projects in indigenous languages in the Escuela Normal Bilingüe which is based in San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya.
‘La Morena’ will be performing classics such as ‘Mambo Lupita, ‘La Llorona’, and ‘Dios Nunca Muere’ as well as new material inspired by Mexican music of the 1940’s.
Tickets are available for $100 or $250 from the Proveedora Escolar, Instituto de Artes Gráficas de Oaxaca (IAGO), Centro de las Artes de San Agustín (CaSa), Centro Fotográfico Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Expendio Tradición and Centro Cultural San Pablo.
This event has been organised by the community associations Amigos de las Lenguas Indígenas de Oaxaca and Amigos del IAGO y el CFMAB.
