Made up of more than 15o cultural activities this year’s International Book Fair is going to be big!
Centred around a nine day exhibition of books in the Alameda de León, the fair will also include book launches, workshops, literary discussions and readings, concerts and exhibitions. The bi-annual Aura Estrada Prize for Literature will be awarded this year, with American author Richard Ford giving the Aura Estrada lecture.
For the first time FIL Oaxaca will feature a special guest country, Argentina, and will host a number of writers including César Aira, Martin Caparros, and Monica and Sandra Lorenzano Maristain. Continuing in this theme, Argentinian band Babasonicos will play an outdoor show at the Museo del Ferrocarril on Friday 8th November.
Other major events include the Cultural Management Forum (presented by Daniel Goldin, Ramiro Osorio, Carlos Villaseñor and Alejandro Ramírez), and a performance by Mexican comedian Andrés Bustamente on Saturday 9th November. Cartoonist and author Joaquin Salvador Lavado, also known as Quino, will be honoured in this year’s event.
