If you’re wondering why the streets of Oaxaca are a little bit shinier this week it’s because today marks the start of the 12th World Congress of the Organisation of Word Heritage Cities. Oaxaca is celebrating 25 years since the historic centre and Monte Alban were placed on the heritage list and is proud to be hosting this year’s event.
The Congress will run from the 18th to the 22nd of November and will include representatives of over 230 cities. During the week there will be a series of forums at Teatro Alcalá with topics including culture, society, urban scope and environment, as well as a series of youth forums. There will be numerous other events across the city and delegates will also visit many of Oaxaca’s historical and tourist sites.
If you’d like to know more about the Congress check their website – it’s available in English, Spanish and French. You can also follow on Facebook and twitter.
