This weekend, 27-28 June, Oaxaca will be filled with music and dance as the city celebrates the 10th National Festival of Danzón.
The festival opens at 11am on Saturday with a national danzón showcase performance accompanied by live music from Danzonera Oaxaca. At 6pm there will be a public dance including performances from the Banda de Seguridad Pública and the Children and Youth Band from Santa Cruz Xoxocotlan. Everyone is encouraged to join in!
Sunday’s main event is a midday concert by the band Santa Cecilia from Teotitlán del Valle.
Performances will be held in the Zocalo under the Laurel tree, however the courtyard in front of the Santo Domingo church is the secondary location. All events are free.
You can follow the festival on Facebook or check out their website for the full program and more information about the festival.
And don’t forget that you can join local dancers every Wednesday for Miércoles de Danzón in either the Zocalo or on Macedonio Alcalá!
